11:30am Traditional Morning Prayer: What to expect

For our Traditional Morning Prayer service we follow the Church of Ireland Book of Common Prayer, and you can find copies in the pews when you come into church. Large print copies of this and the Church of Ireland Hymnal are available, please just ask one of the Churchwardens who will greet you as you come into church.

There is plenty of seating available in both the main body of the church and the transepts, and the Churchwardens will happily help you find a seat.

For many years we have been blessed with an excellent choir and you will see (and hear!) them process into church at the start of the service, with all hymns led by our organist Julie Bell.

Hymn numbers will be announced but you can also find them displayed on several boards throughout the church.

Some of the content of the service can vary depending on the season or feast day, so the person leading the service will always follow the singing of the first hymn by welcoming all in attendance, and will advise everyone of the correct page on which the service for that day will start. You can also find a quick-reference guide on the back of the notice sheet that you will be given by the Churchwardens upon entering the church.

Thereafter it’s just a case of following the prayer book, with any changes in the set order being announced by the service leader. Sermons are usually spoken by our Curate, the Reverend Mike Dornan, although from time to time (and especially whilst we do not have a Rector) we have guest ministers coming to share their own reflections on the Bible readings of the day.

If you feel you prefer the traditional style of worship, or remember the Prayer Book services perhaps from when you were a child, you may find that you enjoy this service and that a lot of it will be very familiar.

Should you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact the Parish Office or chat to one of the Churchwardens.
